Today’s post is going to be a special one. I’m going to be turning 21 on September 1st, which is pretty cool. It feels like such a grown up age and I don’t even feel grown up. But yeah, this is such a special milestone and I wanted to do a series of blog posts to celebrate. So, my next few posts will also be 21-themed. I’m super excited to share all these posts and I hope you enjoy this one.
This post is me going through my priority TBR and picking the books that I really want to read before the end of the year.

(from left to right)
AN EMBER IN THE ASHES SERIES BY SABAA TAHIR: So many people I know have praised this series, which makes me want to read it as soon as I can. I sort of have high hopes from this, but I know I’m going to love it. I’ve also heard it’s pretty heartbreaking, which makes me all the more excited.
THESE VIOLENT DELIGHTS BY CHLOE GONG: Yeah, I know. I still haven’t read this. I have an e-book but I’ve been wanting a physical copy of this for ages but it’s a little expensive on amazon india. But this sounds soo incredible though?? Romeo and Juliet retelling in 1920s Shanghai?? Love it. And I’m looking forward to having my heart torn apart after reading this.
FROM LUKOV WITH LOVE BY MARIANA ZAPATA: I’ve had the ebook for this downloaded for months and I still haven’t read it. Whenever I ask people’s thoughts on this, nearly everybody has enjoyed it. So hopefully soon, I can get to it.
THE INHERITANCE GAMES BY JENNIFER LYNN BARNES: I’ve heard mixed reviews about this one, but the cover is stunning and the synopsis sounds pretty intriguing so I’m looking forward to reading this.
SERPENT AND DOVE BY SHELBY MAHURIN: The series just wrapped up, which is definitely better for me. This is another one I’ve heard mixed reviews of, but I still want to give the first book a shot. And if I enjoy it, I’m definitely going to read the rest of the series.

(from left to right)
THE GILDED WOLVES BY ROSHANI CHOKSHI: This book has been on my TBR since I heard about it, and I’ve been wanting to get to it but I haven’t had the time. And now the paperback on amazon is so expensive 😭 (if you’re in india and know of places where I can get this book for cheap, let me know because I really wanna read this)
WE HUNT THE FLAME BY HAFSAH FAIZAL: This is another book that I have an e-book of, but I really want a physical copy before I start reading. And I just know, I’m going to love this and its sequel.
THE SONG OF ACHILLES BY MADELINE MILLER: I’ve mentioned this book in my mid-year freakout tag, but this is another one that is on my priority TBR and I really want to finish it before the end of the year. And I have the slightest feeling its going to break my heart, so that’s one thing to look forward to.
THE PRIORY OF THE ORANGE TREE BY SAMANTHA SHANNON: This is one huge book that I really really want. I was going to get this for my birthday last year, but I changed my mind at the last second. But I want to read it this year for sure. And it’s so well loved, which really adds to my excitement for this.
THE POPPY WAR BY R.F. KUANG: This is the one book that I’ve told myself that I will definitely buy for my birthday, no matter what. Because I’ve been itching to read the entire trilogy soon because from what I’ve heard, the other two books in the trilogy will break your heart, and judging by this post, I’m sure you’ve realized that I like books that make my heart hurt. So yeah, I’m really looking forward to this one.

(from left to right)
VICIOUS BY VE SCHWAB: Morally grey characters with superpowers set in a comic book style world? Count me in. I first heard of this series back in 2019 from a close friend, and the way she talked about it made me want to pick it up as soon as I could. I’ve seen quotes from Vicious floating around and they’ve got me all the more hyped to read this.
WICKED FOX BY KAT CHO: I will not lie; one of the reason I want to read this book is because of that stunning cover. But the premise just sounds so intriguing and that also played a part in me adding this to my ever growing TBR
THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO BY TAYLOR JENKINS REID: I read an ARC of Malibu Rising and that made me fall in love with TJR’s writing. I’ve heard people say this is one of her best works and literally everyone I know has enjoyed it, so I’m looking forward to giving it a read. And I’ve heard that the audiobook for this is incredible; if you listened to it, let me know what you think of it because I would love to give the audiobook a try.
LEGENDBORN BY TRACY DEONN: Again, another book that is so beloved by everybody that I really really want to read it as soon as I can. And I just know I’m going to enjoy this one too. It’s one of the books I’m definitely going to buy for my birthday.
GEARBREAKERS BY ZOE HANA MIKUTA: I’ve grown up watching mecha animes and one of my favorite movies of all time is Pacific Rim, which is why I’m really excited to read this. I’ve heard mixed reviews, but I feel like I’ll enjoy this one.

(from left to right)
SHE WHO BECAME THE SUN BY SHELLEY PARKER-CHAN: This is one book that has been on my priority TBR the moment I heard about it. And I even requested an ARC on Netgalley, but I got denied😢. I’ve heard only praises, so I really want to get to this before the end of the year.
HOW WE FALL APART BY KATIE ZHAO: I may be a little biased towards this book since I’m on the street team for it, but seriously this is soo good. I got a chance to read a small excerpt and I really loved it, which is why I’m super excited to read it and find out what happens. This comes out August 17, so make sure you preorder this and add this to your goodreads/storygraph.
ACE OF SPADES BY FARIDAH ÀBÍKÉ-ÍYÍMÍDÉ: This is another one of those books that I know for a fact that I’m going to love, which is why I’m really excited to read this. This is another book that I’m gonna buy for my birthday.
HUNTED BY THE SKY BY TANAZ BHATHENA: I’m biased towards any fantasy that has indian elements, or is set in India or in a world inspired by India. And this is one I’m really looking forward to reading this and on top of that, the premise sounds incredible.
THE WOLF AND THE WOODSMAN BY AVA REID: I will admit; one of the biggest reasons I want to read this is that there is supposed to be an *ahem* kneeling scene and I’m a sucker for those type of scenes, so I wanna read this just for that. And the incredible plot, of course.

SHATTER ME BY TAHEREH MAFI: I never really got into this series as it was coming out, but now that there’s what? 6 books, I want to give the first book a try at least and read this with an open mind. So yeah, I’m looking forward to reading this.

Have you read any of the books from this list? What books do you want to read before the end of this year?

happy birthday in advance!! there are so many wonderful books on this list – ace of spades, these violent delights, and the gilded wolves are some of my absolute favourite books, and i also loved legendborn, gearbreakers, and serpent & dove! i’m in the middle of reading the song of achilles rn, and i KNOW the ending will break my heart lol, i can feel it. 😭
from lukov with love, and the priory of the orange tree are also super high on my tbr, so hope we both enjoy them! for the gilded wolves paperback – i got mine in march, and it was rly cheap then, so i feel like the prices just went up. maybe try bookdepo, or an indie bookstore in your area?? 💕
